Most people don’t think of North America as having cool archaeology, but MOUNDS, my friends, MOUNDS. they are cool.
This is “Monks Mound,” at a Mississippian site in Illinois called Cahokia. It is over 10 stories tall and is the largest pre-Colombian structure north of Mexico. Unlike other mounds this was a temple mound, not a burial mound. There was probably some sort of structure on the top level. Dates to around 1150 CE…maybe?
No cool NA archaeology? Where has this person been?
